Page Length

Everyone has a different page length for their sites due to navigation or content. But what do I mean by page length? The Index page is mainly what I am refering to. People tend to have lengthy navigation. However if you do this means you have to scroll down a lot to get to a section you want and then having to scroll to the top to the top of the page it opens. Here is where you find tips on how to limit the length of your page..

- - Iframes are different from many layouts. They have a page within a page. This makes it easy in some ways in that you dont have to deal with the main page loading a million times. However if you have a lengthy page, you end up having to scroll down to find link, scroll up to top of page, scroll back down to find next link you want. Gets annoying no?

- - Drop down menus can be nice. They allow for compact navigation. This means no lengthy navigation along the side of your page, and also allows for you to have a wider content section.

- - Limit the length of your content. Iframes/div can be helpful here. For more information on content set up, read the content tutorial.

- - You main graphic picture. This you need to keep to a small hieght. Many people still have 800x600 screens. Something 400 is almost over half of their screen, its annoying to have to scroll down past the picture just to see the content. Try and keep it a size between 300px to 200px, little bigger if you really need to and smaller is ok or no picture at all.

- - Lastly, try and make sure your site is fit for any screen. Meaning it wont scroll a whole lot with a 800x600 screen resolution. How are you supposed to know? Well anything where you need to click the up arrow on scroll bar 7+ times on a 1024x 768 screen is a little to much... try and keep it from 4 to 6 clicks on the up arrow.

Remember that your site is supposed to be all about making it easy for the user to find things. When you go through your site, ask your self questions, act as if you are a visitor to your site. Is something to long? Does it need to be shorter?
